Elemental Contrast

Art Gallery Imhof Fine Arts presents in Elemental Contrast the tension-filled interplay of color, light, and matter. The showroom contrasts the deep-reaching layering of Anna Snijder’s color spaces with the physical monumentality of Veit Korn’s sculptures from the Ritual Sphere series. It is a juxtaposition of chromatic intensity and the indomitable presence of rocks such as basalt lava, granite, and limestone.

In the diptychs Colour me happy I & II, Anna Snijder manifests the creative tradition of Hans Hofmann’s “Push and Pull” theory. Through the precise interplay of contrasting color fields, she creates a depth effect that results solely from the dynamics of the color. While warm tones press visually forward and cooler surfaces recede, the image surface is set into a pulsating vibration. A final varnish lends the works a special brilliance that enhances the chromatic intensity and gives the colors a permanent freshness.

A meditative counterpoint is formed by the works of Veit Korn from his Ritual Sphere series. The work Trojaburg, crafted from yellow granite from the Black Forest, pays homage to Scandinavian labyrinths and symbolizes protection as well as spiritual journeys. Its labyrinth is meticulously engraved and enhanced with copper leaf, creating a strong contrast to the natural stone structure. With Imperial Orb, Korn reinterprets the historical emblem of authority in basalt lava from Mount Etna, with walnut wood bands and soapstone cross points symbolizing the world axis and the four cardinal directions. All sculptures in the series combine the permanence of stone with a mysterious presence that bridges the past and the present.
