Art Gallery Imhof Fine Arts presents in Neon Intensity a high-energy form of gestural abstraction. This showroom is dedicated to Anna Snijder’s diptych series Summertime I & II, in which the boundaries between color and light are radically dissolved.
In these works, Snijder uses the canvas as an immediate field of action. Deeply rooted in Art Informel and Abstract Expressionism, the often vertical, impasto paths of color testify to a physical and impulsive painting process. The series captivates through a tension-filled balance between ecstatic bursts of color and calming overpaintings. Luminous neon accents in pink, yellow, and turquoise flash like energetic impulses through generous layers of white and light gray.
The title Summertime reveals itself through a play with perception: neon pink and lemon yellow function as chromatic shockwaves representing the aggressive vitality and oppressive heat of summer. These impulses are “masked” by white overpaintings, creating the effect of blinding overexposure—a visualization of that moment when reality begins to shimmer and solid forms dissolve into pure vibration.
