Labyrinth - Veit Korn

Labyrinth by Veit Korn is a sculptural meditation on myth, material, and meaning. Carved into red Main sandstone—originally a floor slab from an 18th-century church—the work features a gilded, circular labyrinth evocative of the ancient Cretan motif associated with King Minos and the myth of the Minotaur.

The precise gold line draws the eye inward, suggesting a clear route to the center. And yet, a quiet irony unfolds: those who resist the obvious and follow the unmarked path of the stone itself will reach the goal more directly. In this subtle inversion, Korn challenges our assumptions about guidance, direction, and the authority of appearances.

Like the labyrinth in the palace of Knossos, the sculpture becomes a space of introspection and symbolic transformation. It speaks to both spiritual pilgrimage and existential orientation—where missteps may become revelations, and truth lies not always in the path most clearly lit.

Material, history, and myth are interwoven here into a singular artistic statement—both timeless and personal.
