Sail III - Roland Berger Imhof Fine Arts

At first glance, Sail III appears like a flat fragment of stone, shaped by time and carved with a flowing depression. In fact, it is cast entirely in bronze. Unlike earlier Sail works, where Berger combined bronze with stone, here he deliberately allows the metal alone to carry the illusion of geological weight and erosion.

At its center, a droplet-like indentation evokes sediment layers, erosion patterns, or the trace of something that once moved. The surface shifts between rough texture and smooth polish, between mass and flow. While Sail explored vertical tension and balance, Sail III rests closer to the ground – like a process paused, a memory embedded in form.
