Spritz IV - Dick Berckenkamp Imhof Fine Arts, Imhof, Painting

In Spritz IV from the Radio Spritz series, the visual translation of movement reaches a new, almost architectural dimension. While the circling gestures characteristic of the series continue to enliven the background, Spritz IV is additionally structured by a striking vertical and horizontal dynamic. The signature working method—processing the canvas flat from all sides—leads here to a composition in which linear color flows overlap like crossing radio signals.

Stylistically, the work is anchored in post-abstraction. The juxtaposition of mist-like spray paint traces and sharp-edged, almost relief-like acrylic structures creates a visual friction that represents the modern sampling of different painterly languages. The vertical impulses act like beats that interrupt and reorder the horizontal flow of colors.

By deliberately leaving the light ground open, the colors retain their maximum luminosity and act like pure light waves. Ultimately, Spritz IV is a visual score of this movement of what is actually invisible to the human eye. Since the work has no fixed orientation, the viewer is invited to re-read the balance between the crossing signals again and again and to explore the interplay of sound, movement, and light within the image itself.
