Soft Vertical - Roland Berger Imhof Fine Arts

The sculpture Soft Vertical rises as a narrow, vertically aligned form that oscillates between organic naturalness and abstract corporeality. Gentle bulges, rhythmic indentations, and a seemingly flowing motion give the bronze a vivid plasticity – as if shaped by inner tension or still in the process of forming.

On closer inspection, the two converging strands recall naturally grown speleothem structures – stalagmites and stalactites that grow toward each other drop by drop over centuries until they finally meet. In this sense, the sculpture rests within a geological timescale – full of anticipation, calm yet subtly dynamic.

The bronze appears soft, almost molten, as if the form emerged from a state of liquid energy that has quietly solidified. In its reduction, Berger condenses a quiet intensity – between rising and sinking, connection and separation, motion and stillness.
