Art Gallery Imhof Fine Arts presents Dick Berckenkamp’s series Beyond Words – a staging in which the boundaries between visual art, sound, and movement blur. The showroom transforms the space into a psychological force field where the unspeakable becomes visible through color.
The three exhibited paintings by Berckenkamp form an emotional trilogy of perception. In Whispering, delicate, almost whispering color movements dominate, gliding across the canvas like acoustic stimuli. Wondering, on the other hand, radiates a searching dynamism; the lines act like a flow of thought building up in layers. In Waiting, a moment of pause becomes palpable – a vibrating silence before the next discharge.
Instead of telling a story, Berckenkamp translates internal states into a visual score. The biomorphic eruptions and the graphic tension of his painting make the actually invisible – such as time or a feeling – an immediate physical experience. The canvases function as resonance spaces that go directly “under the skin”.
In contrast, Roland Berger’s Bishop offers a sculptural meditation on presence and silent authority. The slender bronze form rises like a mystical appearance – tall and characterized by a biomorphic aesthetic that oscillates between figure and abstraction. The surface appears organically grown, furrowed almost like tree bark, unfolding a static energy that stands firm in space. While Berckenkamp’s canvases vibrate, Bishop remains in a fine balance of stillness and flow; the form seemingly follows gravity, creating a palpable downward movement from the still posture.
