Held in Flow - Roland Berger

In Held in Flow, Roland Berger works with a vertically rising form segmented into rhythmic, organic units, culminating in a hand-like shape with a pierced center. The sculpture resists clear categorization – neither strictly figurative nor purely abstract – and derives its quiet presence from this very ambiguity.

The vertical sequence evokes natural growth processes – plant structures, limbs, or a flowing river that gathers into a final gesture. The linear articulation creates a visual rhythm between smoothness and tension, balance and movement.

Berger manages to draw a sense of permeability and concentration from a seemingly static form. The sculpture stands – upright, slender, permeable – as a silent resonance between gesture, sign, and structure.
