Ana Barbic Katicic

About the Artist

Ana Barbić Katičić (1971) – Light Moods between Horizon and Wanderlust

Ana Barbić Katičić dedicates her artistic work to translating fleeting light moods and moments of nature into a partially abstract visual language. Stylistically, she operates within the realm of abstract impressionism, where her works dissolve the boundary between the physical world and pure atmospheric sensation. The foundation for her work was laid at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, where she earned her degree in 2002. Today, she is one of Croatia’s most prominent contemporary artists and enjoys extensive international acclaim.

In her series of works, the canvas becomes the stage for an intense dialogue between light and structure. Much like in the groundbreaking late works of Claude Monet or the atmospheric seas of light by William Turner, the representational world recedes in favor of a pure color composition. Katičić does not capture the landscape itself, but rather the feeling it evokes – the vastness of the Adriatic, the cool breeze at dawn, or the intensity of a sunset. Technically, she combines the play of delicate glazes with a striking squeegee technique to create a haptic texture reminiscent of the rugged nature of rock and water.

A special milestone in her career was the prestigious collaboration with the world football association FIFA: her artistic design was selected for the creation of the official The Best FIFA Football Awards™ trophy – an accolade that underscores her ability to unite aesthetics and symbolic power at the highest level. Her artistic journey has also led her to significant exhibition venues, including the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris.

Her works have long since found their way into public institutions such as the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb, as well as numerous exclusive private collections worldwide, thus solidifying her place in the contemporary art scene.
